MiCoB — Micro Concrete Builders — was born out of PhD research at IIT Gandhinagar. We observed that traditional construction was slow, wasteful, and quality-inconsistent. Our answer: robotic 3D concrete printing that eliminates formwork, reduces waste by 40%, and cuts build time from 45 days to 7.

Today we are India's highest-volume 3DCP company — official supplier to the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, and delivered the world's first 5-star 3D printed resort.

How We Build

The 3DCP Process

Our printer comprises four systems: a 6-axis motion assembly (FANUC robotic arm), a feeding system, a concrete pump, and a continuous mixer — integrated into a seamless automated build chain.

BIM to Toolpath
Architectural models (IFC/BIM/CAD) are processed through our proprietary MICOB OS software. G-code toolpaths are generated with precise layer height, speed, and flow parameters tuned for the structural requirement and concrete mix.
02 / 04 ⚗️
Mix Design C40
Our printable concrete uses fine particles only — no coarse aggregates. Industrial fly ash, silica fume, polymer fibres, and superplasticisers achieve thixotropic behaviour. 28-day strength: 65 MPa. Open time: 2–4 hours.

Robotic Arm Print
The FANUC-based 6-axis arm receives toolpath instructions. The continuous mixer feeds the concrete pump, which delivers the mix to the custom nozzle. The nozzle deposits precise 8–24mm wide beads, layer by layer, formwork-free.

QC & Handover
Computer vision monitors every deposited layer in real time. Post-print: UPV testing, core samples, and dimensional scan vs. BIM model. Full structural certificate and as-built documentation delivered to client.

Our Story

Three PhD scholars who decided India deserved to build faster and smarter.

In 2015, Shashank Shekhar was working at a renowned construction firm, watching quality issues, material waste, and delayed timelines repeat endlessly. When news of 3D concrete printing projects in China and Dubai broke, he left to pursue a PhD in 3DCP at IIT Gandhinagar — where he met Ankita and Rishabh.

In 2018, the three co-founded MiCoB — Micro Concrete Builders — named for our use of micro-fine concrete particles without coarse aggregates. Today we are India's highest-volume 3DCP company, profitable, award-winning, and delivering for India's most demanding clients.

What is 3D Concrete Printing and how does MiCoB's system work?+

3DCP is an additive manufacturing process where a robotic arm deposits layers of specially formulated concrete through a nozzle, following a computer-generated toolpath derived from a 3D model. MiCoB's system uses a custom-modified FANUC 6-axis robotic arm integrated with a continuous mixer and concrete pump. No formwork is required — structures grow layer by layer from the ground up.

How much faster is 3DCP vs conventional construction?+

MiCoB consistently delivers in 7 days what conventional construction takes 45 days to complete. The Pune Air Force runway controller hut was done in 30 days. Speed comes from eliminating formwork setup, multi-day curing cycles, and manual masonry — automating the most time-consuming phases.

Is 3D printed concrete structurally safe?+

Yes — and often superior. Our C40 mix achieves 65 MPa at 28 days. MiCoB's bunkers have been blast-tested against a T90 tank at Pokharan (2022) and passed. Our residential structures comply with Seismic Zone 3 specifications. All structures come with full structural certificates.

Does 3DCP replace construction workers?+

No — it uplifts them. A trained mason with basic concrete knowledge is ideal for our floor operations. The work involves less physical strain, higher skill contribution, and better pay. MiCoB has trained 30+ people from marginalised backgrounds as 3DCP operators. Our mission is dignified construction work.

What are the cost implications vs traditional construction?+

3DCP costs slightly more per sqm on raw materials. But when factoring in time savings (45→7 days), reduced financing costs, improved quality control, lower rework, and lifecycle thermal benefits, total cost of ownership is competitive or lower. As technology scales, costs continue to drop.
